One day earlier in April, we decided to do a quick picnic at Red Cliffs. When we got there, we found a nice spot and set our stuff out on the table only to find the whole place was crawling with caterpillars. The kids were very curious, but very nervous about the whole situation. I have to admit, I was too. The caterpillars were crawling all over the table and ground and falling off the table onto our feet. I can't even say how many we squished accidently just by moving our feet from one place to another. I am always trying to stay calm around bugs and other creepy things, in hopes that I won't pass my irrational fears onto the kids, but it is really hard not to scream when you feel a hairy caterpillar crawl between the arch of your foot and your sandal. GROSS! The campground host told us the caterpillars take over every year at this time. I wish we were there to see them all turn to butterflies!
Checking out a caterpillar up close.
I already wrote a little about Alberto's graduation, but never posted any pictures.
Earlier in May, Alberto had a few days off so we packed up on a Wednesday afternoon and decided to take the kids camping. They had been so excited to try out the tent since we gave it to Alberto for his graduation gift. We first attempted to get a spot at Red Cliffs because it is close to home and we thought it would be no trouble considering it was Wednesday, but they were all full so we tried Snow Canyon, it was all full too. After a lot of driving around and some frustration, we ended up at Baker. As soon as we picked our spot and got the tent out, it started raining and blowing. Poor Alberto had to work so hard to set up the tent in the middle of all this and I swear the instant he was done, the rain and wind stopped and the rest of the evening was delightful (minus the part where I forgot to pack jackets for the kids. Luckily I had some wind breakers in the van and we dressed them in all the clothes I brought). At one point Alberto said, "This is turning into a fiasco (sp?)" I couldn't help but laugh because essentially that is what camping is. You think it is going to be a fun, easy get away, but it is really a lot of work and rarely goes as planned. Camping is always fun though. I only took one picture:
For Memorial Day weekend, we were invited to go to Marysvale with our friends and neighbors to their family cabin. It was the such a fun weekend and the cabin was amazing. We even had our own private room and bathroom. Unfortunately I barely took any pictures, again. The kids had a great time playing in the sand box and "riding" the "go-goes" (4-wheelers). We were even on bear watch the whole time because when our friends got up there the day before we came, they found that a bear had been looking in some of the windows (he left snot marks, paw prints and some tears in the screens). The last night we were there, the bear returned although, no one saw or heard him, a couple of the four wheelers had their seats ripped and one had one of the gages smashed. The bear also hauled away a gas can, knocked over a trash barrel and tried to open a pack on the back of a 4-wheeler. I was most afraid that I'd get up to use the restroom and find the bear staring into our window (we were staying in the room he had been looking it before)...Luckily, he didn't give us any trouble.
